Mr. James “Jimmy” Edward Fox, age 90, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends, during the UGA football game.
Mr. Fox retired from General Motors with over thirty years of service. In his younger years, he was known for his adventurous spirit, traveling the country as a harness racing trainer. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman that loved deer hunting and enjoyed camping on the Tallulah River with his family and friends. He was a strong supporter of the University of Georgia’s football team which was a love that he passed down to his son and grandson. Together, they would spend many Saturdays in Athens watching the game and enjoying time with each other. Above all, Jimmy’s purpose in life was to ensure that his children and grandchildren were happy and well taken care of. He served as a tremendous role model for his family.
Mr. Fox was preceded in death by his wife; Rachel A. Crowe Fox; daughter, Terri Lynn Fairbank; parents, Thomas V. Fox and Kathleen Healan Fox; siblings, Thomas Coleman Fox and Geraldine Fox McDaniel; and grandson, Ryan Fox.
Mr. Fox is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Candie Fox of Winder; sister, Martha Jean Barnette of Winder; two grandchildren, Sarah Kaitlin Fairbank of Gainesville, FL and Jonathan Edward Fairbank of Tallahassee, FL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024 in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Mr. Steven Rogers officiating. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home.
