Mrs. Gertie Gumm, age 99, of Hoschton, Georgia died November 1, 2011. A native of Banks County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James David and Hulda Porter Ivie. Mrs. Gumm was the widow of Horace H. Gumm and Wiley B. Rachels. She was preceded in death by daughters Delores Rachels, Ottaline Rachels, Bonita Andrews and Annette Davis, she was also preceded by grandchildren David Stanton, Diane Arrington, Wiley Rachels and Ann Rich. Mrs. Gumm served as a welder at Savannah Shipbuilders and as a seamstress at Arrow Shirts. She was a current member of Hoschton First Baptist Church and was a former member of Statham First Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A. M., Friday, November 4, 2011 from the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Purvis, Rev. Gordon Thornton and Rev. Robert Stamey officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The Family will receive friends Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 4-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to the church or charity of choice.
Surviving are Son & Daughter-in-law – Winston & Lula Rachels of Covington, Daughters & Son-in-law – Mary Stanton of Jefferson, Girleene Barnes of Hogansville and Jane & Don Bush of Hoschton. Twenty-three Grandchildren, Forty-eight Great Grandchildren and Fifty-five Great Great Grandchildren also survive.
