Lt. Col. John R. King, (retired), age 93 of Winder, Georgia died September 7, 2011. A Native of Columbus, Georgia he was a son of the late Wilbur and Lillie Mae Davis King. He was preceded by his wife, Frankie Sanders King in 1971. Lt. Col. King served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and the Korean Conflict. During World War II, he was a P. O. W. in France and was part of the occupation force in Japan. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Lt. Col. King was a member of the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce, Board member of Ft. Yargo State Park, and member of The V. F. W. and American Legion.
The Funeral Service and interment was held in Columbus, Georgia, September 10, 2011.
A Memorial Service was held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 4:00 P. M. from the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Davis officiating. Please omit flowers; memorials may be made to Barrow Regional Medical Center, C/O Joan Vincent, P. O. Box 688, Winder, Georgia 30680.
Surviving are Daughter, Lily Page, Grandchildren, Sandy Page and Jonathan Page, Siblings, Margaret Jenkins, Ruby Mixon, Betty Leachman, Lillian McLeod, and Fred King.
