Mr. George Dewey Cothran III

1956 — 2026

Winder

Mr. George Dewey Cothran III, lovingly known by many as “Skip,” passed away on April 17, 2026, in Winder, Georgia.

Born in Atlanta and raised in Clarkston, Georgia, George graduated from Clarkston High School in 1974 and went on to live a life grounded in faith, family, and simplicity.

George operated PressTime Printing in Tucker, Georgia, alongside most of his immediate family, where they built friendships with many members of the surrounding community. In addition to his career, he faithfully served as a pastor for many years, sharing his love of Jesus and guiding others to faith with conviction and honesty.

He was a man who loved deeply and lived simply. George found joy in good music, especially classic rock and roll, and could often be found picking a tune on his guitar or turning up the volume to enjoy an album on vinyl. He had a deep appreciation for American muscle cars, a love that reflected his personality: classic, strong, and full of character. In retirement he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and working side by side outdoors with the love of his life. He was a steadfast man that had a quick wit, loved to crack jokes, and could quote a good western at just the right moment. George was never one to mince words, you always knew exactly where you stood with him, but those who knew him best will forever remember his strong presence and the kind of hug that could quiet the noise of the world.

Above all, George loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Cathy Cothran (Davidson), whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by his son, Joshua Cothran and his daughters, Sara and Allison; and his daughter, Stephanie Donnelly (Cothran), her husband Keegan Donnelly, and their children Jaidyn, Keira, and Sullivan. His five grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he was endlessly proud of both of his children.

He is also survived by his brother, Brad Cothran (Lisa), and his sister, Laura Richardson (Lanny), along with their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. Cothran Jr. and Patricia Anne Cothran (Akins).

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home with Rev. JoJo Thomas officiating. Burial will follow the service at Turner Hill Cemetery, 3402 Turner Hill Road Stonecrest, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 20, from 1:00 PM until the service hour at Maddox Memorial Home.

George will be remembered as a man of strong faith, and unconditional love of family. A husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left a lasting mark on all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

— Matthew 25:23
