Alfred Gregory Lanthier was born on March 16, 1953, to the late Ludger Wilfred Lanthier, Sr. and Hazel Church Lanthier. He passed into Glory on May 2, 2026, after an extended illness. Greg is survived by his loving wife Pat of 45 years, his daughter Sally, and son Trapper (Caleigh). He is also survived by his brother Mitch (Susan) Lanthier, sister-in-law Susan (Don) Wages, brother-in-law Jimmy Odum, several nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Greg is predeceased by his parents, his sister Barbara (Les) Mount, brother Ludger (Patricia) Lanthier Jr., sister-in-law Joni Odum, nephews Bud Mount, Trip Lanthier, Chris Lanthier, and Will Wages.
Greg graduated from Winder Barrow High School in 1971 and attended Georgia Southern College. He joined the family business, Lanthier Machine Works, later known as Lanthier’s Heating and Plumbing. Greg held both Conditioned Air Non-Restricted and Master Plumber Non-Restricted licenses. After several years of working together, Robby Pierson became his partner in 1997 at Lanthier’s Heating and Air, Inc.
Greg was deeply passionate about his work. He was an active member of both the local Conditioned Air Association and the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia, serving as President of the state association from 1997 to 1998. His mentorship and encouragement have been recognized by numerous tradesmen.
Greg was a member of Bethlehem First United Methodist Church. He also served with the Winder Volunteer Fire Department, was a charter member of the Winder Moose Lodge, and a member of the Bethlehem Hunting Club.
Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman. He grew up fishing at Lake Rabun and Horseshoe Beach, places he cherished. Many of his summer weekends were spent frog gigging and turtle jugging. During the fall, Greg could be found in a deer stand every weekend at Red Hawk, Eagle Rock, Oglethorpe County, Barrow County, or Saskatchewan, Canada. One of his most memorable trophies was taken behind his home.
Greg loved to cook, frequently using his own catch as the main ingredient for “fries” and stews. Known affectionately as the “Stew Master,” he was also celebrated for his barbecue and grilling skills. His homemade BBQ sauces were a favorite among family and friends, who often hoped for them as “unexpected” Christmas gifts.
Greg’s life was well lived. He will be deeply missed by his immediate family, extended family, and many friends.
