Mr. Jackie Howell McDaniel

Mr. Jackie Howell McDaniel, age 79, of Winder, a distinguished figure in law enforcement and a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Mr. McDaniel’s career spanned an impressive forty-four years, culminating in his retirement from the Barrow County Sheriff's Department. Throughout his tenure, he was respected not only for his professional expertise but also for his genuine care for the people he served. Jackie was a testament to a man whose physical stature reflected a strength matched by the warmth of his spirit.

Known widely and deeply loved, Jackie was celebrated for his larger-than-life presence. His impressive size was accompanied by his vibrant personality. Friends and colleagues often remarked on his sense of humor and the empathy he extended toward others, qualities that made him much more than a public servant. Jackie was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his parents; Herman McDaniel and Flora Bowles McDaniel.

Jackie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Etheridge McDaniel of Winder; daughters, Darlene (Andy) McLean of Auburn and Denise (Ronnie) Dailey of Winder; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Meagan) Jackson of Winder, Justin (Corie) Jackson of Winder, Kimberly Taylor of Nicholson, and Harley (Sammy) Dailey of Braselton; and seven great-grandchildren, Reagan Jackson, Tenley Bradshaw, Kylee Jackson, Brentley Jackson, Preston Taylor, Brylee Taylor, and Logan Jackson. 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 27, 2026 in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home with Rev. Frankie Green officiating. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddox Memorial Home. 

Flowers are accepted for the funeral service of Mr. Jackie McDaniel.
