Mr. James Walter McClain, age 79, of Winder, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at his residence.
Mr. McClain served the United States faithfully in the Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. James was an avid collector of Native American and patriotic memorabilia. He will be remembered best as a loving father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas McClain and Montine Welch McClain; and his siblings, Tommy McClain, Rickey McClain, Jean Head, and Marie Garlock.
James is survived by his loving daughters, Roxanne (Brian) Roberts of Auburn and Samantha McClain of Statham; siblings, Wayne McClain of Crawford, Katherine Strang of Augusta and Barbara Mock of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Mays, Brandy Roberts, Bailey (Elizabeth) Roberts, Brian Roberts, Blake Roberts, Bella Roberts, Lewiselyn Alvarez, and Makayla Mooney; two great-grandchildren, Eric Mays III and Makinzie Merritt; along with his former wife, Micki McClain.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home with Rev. John Burchfield officiating.
Flowers are accepted for the celebration of life service.
Maddox Memorial Home, Winder, is entrusted with the arrangements.
