Mr. William Grover Phillips, affectionately known as “Pop,”, age 97, of Winder, passed away peacefully, on Friday, July 11, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him, at his residence, after a brief illness.
Born in Walton County to the late James William and Kate Bradshaw Phillips, Grover lived a long and fulfilling life grounded in faith, family, and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering strength.
Grover was a man of many talents and passions. A lifelong machinist and proud two-time retiree, he also found great purpose as a dedicated farmer. He had a special love for tractors—riding them, working on them, and simply being out on the land brought him peace and joy. He enjoyed gardening, cooking for his family, and lending a hand to anyone in need. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and rarely missed the chance to watch a game. He also loved cheering on his great-grandson at baseball games whenever he was able.
A faithful Christian, Grover served his church for many years, living out his beliefs through quiet strength, kindness, and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, many beloved friends and family members, and his grandson, Jeff Phillips.
Grover is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane Hardy Phillips, whom he adored. He also leaves behind his children, son and daughter-in-law Darrel and Sandra Phillips; daughter Linda Booth; and daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Buddy Long.
Known to many simply as “Pop,” Grover was a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Northeast Georgia Hospice for their care, and to the many family members and friends who stood by Grover’s side in his final moments, as well as those who constantly cared for him day and night.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in the Chapel of Maddox-Carter Memorial Home with his Brother-in-law Jerry Hardy officiating. Burial will follow the service at 3:00 PM at Eternal Hill Memory Gardens in Snellville. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Maddox-Carter Memorial Home.
