Mr. Richard Maxey, age 82, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Richard retired from General Motors. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed deer hunting and taking care of his lawn. Richard was a founding member of the Maxey-Maddox-Terry-Shook Hunting Club, where he enjoyed spending time camping and hunting with his lifelong friends. He also took great pride in restoring antique cars and trucks to immaculate condition.

Mr. Maxey was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy Everett Maxey; and parents, John Lewis Maxey and Ruth Collins Maxey. 

Mr. Maxey is survived by his sons, David Maxey of Monroe and Ricky (Sulan) Maxey of Winder; four grandchildren, Justin Taylor Maxey of Atlanta, Creston John (Raleigh) Maxey of Statham, Kaleigh Nichole (William) Brown of Lawrenceville, and Brandon Keith Maxey of Monroe; and two great-grandchildren, Grant Parker Maxey and Reeves Carter Maxey. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Al Maddox, Grady Maddox, Jacob Maddox, Dalton Maddox, Jason McDaniel, and Don Parks. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. 

Maddox-Carter Memorial Home, Winder, is entrusted with the arrangements.
