Mr. William "Bill" Howard Doster, Sr., age 83, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
He was born on January 3, 1943, Bill lived a life defined by dedication, creativity, and a remarkable sense of humor. Known affectionately by many as "The Professor," Bill's incredible intelligence was evident throughout his distinguished career as a mechanical engineer specializing in commercial HVAC systems. His professional journey included significant contributions at Carrier Atlanta and Mingledorff's Distributors, where his expertise and innovative spirit greatly advanced the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was admired for his positive attitude and unwavering commitment to excellence. Those fortunate to know him cherished his ability to infuse humor and kindness into every situation. His quick wit and warm personality were as much a part of his legacy as his engineering accomplishments.
He was also an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider. He also loved spending time on the water, finding joy and peace in these beloved pastimes.
Mr. Doster was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Benjamin Doster and Mary Celeste Porter Doster and a grandchild, Scarlett Doster.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Betty Hall Doster of Gainesville; children, Teresa Doster (Steve) Allen of Braselton, Karen Doster (Bobby) Rhodes of Buford, and William "Billy" Doster, Jr. of Gainesville; brother, Benjamin "Ben" Doster of Snellville; eight grandchildren, Mark DaCosta, Joshua Jurgens, Nicholas Jurgens, Mathew Jurgens, Jacob Doster, Elizabeth Doster, Elijah Doster, and Abigail Doster; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2026 in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home with Rev. Shayne Russell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, from 12:00 PM until the service hour at Maddox Memorial Home.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the University Cancer and Blood Center, UCBC, 3320 Old Jefferson Road Building 800 Athens, GA 30607.
