Mrs. Clorece "Clo" Markham Hayes, 94, of Winder, entered into the presence of Her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at her home.
Clo was born in Lake City, Florida, to the late Roe & Bessie Lee Markham on July 7, 1931. She was one of six siblings who have all preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her husband Coley W. Hayes who she was married to for 67 years. She graduated from high school in Florida and attended 1 year of college at the University of Florida before moving to Georgia to attend Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. She graduated nursing school in 1954 and worked at Scottish Rite Hospital for 13 years, Lilburn Healthcare for 4 years and Brookrun Healthcare for 15 years.
Clo was active in Baptist Churches all her life and served her Lord faithfully. She was currently a member of Winder First Baptist, where she was an active member of the senior adult ministry, including Saints Alive Choir, WMU. She loved missions and supported many mission groups.
She is survived by her son, Walter C. Hayes (Cheryl) of Buford, Ga; daughters, Libby Pritchett (Mark) and Judy Hayes of Winder, Ga. She was blessed in life by 4 grandchildren, Wendy Knight, Matthew Pritchett, Marci Pritchett and Amber Hayes (who preceded her in death in 1987). Her great-grandchildren, Kylie & Laila Sanders Jefferson, Ga., Hannah Knight, Sydney Knight, Ansleigh Knight, Olivia Knight, Hunter Knight Buford, Ga. Emerson Pritchett & Ellis Pritchett (umming, Ga.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, at Winder First Baptist Church. Officiated by Pastor Wayne Ghann of Rutledge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 11, from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at Winder First Baptist Church. Graveside service and burial will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 12, at Lilburn First Baptist Church, led by Pastor Chad Mantooth of Winder First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Building Fund at Winder First Baptist Church, 625 Jefferson Highway, Winder, Ga. 30680 or Camp Pinnacle Summer Missions Camp for Girls at BWMU of Ga.
