Mrs. Essie Mae Mathis, age 87, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by her family. 

Mrs. Mathis loved spending time outside; she enjoyed camping and going trout fishing with her family. Essie Mae will be remembered best as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from Barrow Manufacturing Plant as a seamstress. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Junior Mathis; and parents, Charlie Collett and Effie Saterfield Collett.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by her children, Rickie Mathis of Winder, Carol (Mike) Kitchens of Bethlehem, Vickie Davis of Winder, and Penny Mathis (Jerry McLocklin) of Royston; four grandchildren, Justin Ashley, Colby Cooper, Kevin Davis, and Nikki Davis; and five great-grandchildren, Chloe Ashely, Samuel Cooper, Nataleigh Cooper, David Cooper, and Kaden Davis. 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddox Memorial Home. 

Flowers are accepted for the funeral service of Mrs. Mathis.
