Mrs. Joy Beckum Wells, age 88, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Joy retired as a bookkeeper with Harrison Poultry after also working at the Empire Manufacturing Plant, where her meticulous nature and attention to detail served her well. Joy had an adventurous spirit; she loved camping and traveling with her family and friends.
She was a longtime member of Chapel Christian Church. Joy was deeply committed to her faith and was known for her kindness and compassion. Her involvement in the church was a testament to her belief in the values of fellowship and support for those around her.
Among her proudest accomplishments, Joy took great pride in being a devoted mother. Having become a widow in 1970, she raised three boys with unwavering love and dedication, demonstrating extraordinary strength and resilience. Her legacy as a nurturing and caring mother will always be remembered.
Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Wells; and parents, Robert and Kathryn Nalley Beckum.
She is survived by her three sons, Tony Wells of Winder (Susan Sims of Watkinsville), Andy (Melissa) Wells of Hartwell, and Randy (Carey) Wells of Winder; her beloved sister, Judy (Derrel) Mauldin of Winder; five grandchildren, Jarrod (Cara) Wells, Zach Wells, Ethan Wells, Chandler (Jordan) Wells, and Malerie Wells; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Wells and Maggie Wells.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddox Memorial Home.
Flowers are accepted for the funeral service of Mrs. Wells.
