Mrs. Loretta Rice Shuler, age 70, of Winder, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026.

Mrs. Shuler retired from Holsenbeck Elementary School, where she served as a computer lab teacher and cared deeply for each of her students. Mrs. Shuler had a special way of making her students feel loved and valued, and she took great pride in watching them learn and grow.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and devoted educator. Loretta loved spending time in the mountains, working in her garden, and cooking for those she loved.

Mrs. Shuler was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence A. Rice and Georgia R. Simpson Rice; and siblings, Paul Rice and Dennis Rice. 

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 43 years, Jim Shuler of Winder; children, James (Hannah) Shuler of Winder and Will (Annie) Shuler of Winder; brother, Bruce (Susan) Rice of Chattanooga; sister, Linda (Jerry) Carol of Chickamauga; and two adored grandchildren, Archer Shuler and Talia Shuler. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Maddox Memorial Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Maddox Memorial Home. 

Flowers are accepted for the memorial service of Mrs. Shuler.
