Ms. Dixie Howell Wade, age 90, of Winder, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Those who knew Dixie Wade knew four things: she loved God, her family, Alabama football, and a good game of Rummikub.
She was the proud mother of three daughters, grandmother to nine, and great-grandmother to seven. Nothing brought her more joy than being involved in their lives—cheering from the stands at sporting events, celebrating milestones, and being present in the everyday moments.
Dixie had a gift for building community wherever she was. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Winder, where she especially cherished her women’s Sunday School class and the friendships formed there. She also shared a close bond with her neighbors, often hosting weekly game nights that, of course, included Rummikub.
Her hobbies reflected her generous heart—she was an avid crocheter who created hats for local nonprofits, and she loved spending time in the kitchen. Her homemade spaghetti, rum cake & homemade pickles were family favorites, recipes that will forever be remembered with love.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Influenced deeply by the ministry of Dr. Charles Stanley and her time at First Baptist Church of Atlanta, Dixie was never shy about sharing Jesus with those around her.
Above all, Dixie will be remembered as the person you could always count on—faithful, loving, and devoted. She loved her family fiercely and left a legacy of kindness, faith, and strength that will live on in everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
Ms. Wade was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Simeon Wade and Essie Mae Whiddon Wade; and seven siblings, Edward Wade, Otho Wade, Elton Wade, Burna Dean Culbreth, Malcolm Wade, Ann Turley, and Faye Miller.
She is survived by her children, Sherry (Phil) Tindell of Scottsdale, AZ, Tammy (Keith) Jenkins of Winder, GA, and Donna (Neal) Gumbin of The Plains, VA; sister, Sue Howell of Dothan, AL; brother, Ray Wade of Birmingham, AL; nine grandchildren, Lindsay Crawford, Tess Gumbin, Lacey Jernigan, Shelley Jenkins, Samantha Bailey, Emily Tindell, Darby Tindell, Jack Gumbin, and Wade Tindell; and a GiGi to seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Winder First Baptist Church with Pastor Bronson Crawford officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Winder First Baptist Church.
